HRAGD Workshop - January 16, 2009
“Turning Doers into Leaders Through Effective Managerial Training”
Besides the normal need to promote employees from being excellent individual contributors to being excellent supervisors and managers, the downsizing and retirements of aging baby boomers are thrusting more and more unprepared employees into the role of supervising and managing others. As many employers in the Southeastern Michigan experience these transitions, they struggle with these issues. On January 16, 2009, HRAGD presents a workshop to address these challenges, “Turning Doers into Leaders Through Effective Managerial Training,” from 7:30 – 11:00 am at Tapestry in Southfield. Speakers include Kris Munroe, Director of Human Resources for Roush Enterprises, and David Hultgren, VP Client Services & Product Development, Prism Learning Solutions.
Kris Munroe will share Roush’s challenges dealing with new and existing supervisors with no formal supervisory/management training and skills deficiencies on the job and will describe her work with David Hultgren to create effective supervisory training to turn individual contributors into successful leaders.
The structure of the workshop includes:
1. Define the need
2. Structure the design process
3. Review Roush’s training materials
4. Share Roush’s lessons learned
5. Establish your own process
Participants will leave the workshop with a rationale, sample curriculum overview and a process checklist to use in creating their own successful supervisory training process for their organization. Upon completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Identify key steps in the development of successful supervisory/managerial training.
- Make the case for a rational process to supervisory development rather than haphazard course selection.
- Use a checklist to select key components to create their own process for developing successful supervisory training.
