Get Involved with a Committee - Volunteer!

Make the most of your HRAGD membership by getting involved! Volunteering with HRAGD provides valuable return on your investment. Develop essential leadership, mentoring and team-based competencies, network with fellow members, influence the direction of the organization or give back to your community. There are a many ways to express yourself, use your talents or learn a new skill. Committees are comprised of diverse, enthusiastic and energetic individuals. In most cases, no prior related experience is required. Meeting schedules are flexible to meet member needs. The following is a brief summary of our committees. Communications: Vice President: Kim Buckey kbuckey@highroads.com
Communications provides relevant and up-to-date information to the membership. Activities include editing and publishing the monthly newsletter and the Annual Report. Meetings are scheduled bimonthly: September, November, January, March and May and are usually held in Southfield. The committee typically meets the first Thursday of the month, usually in late afternoon and alternates between conference calls and “live” meetings.

Community Relations leverages the resources of our membership to drive social responsibility and foster diversity, encourage giving, develop future HR leaders, and prepare the future workforce. The Diversity subcommittee provides resources and events to promote diversity awareness; the College Programs subcommittee builds and leverages partnerships and promotes collaborative efforts with our schools; and the Workforce Readiness subcommittee works with communities and businesses to improve job search and work readiness skills. Meetings are held on an as needed basis.

Legal Affairs: Vice President: Claudia D. Orr corr@plunkettcooney.com
Legal Affairs provides members with legal updates and analysis on a variety of employment and labor law topics. Activities include writing monthly newsletter articles; providing e-mail blasts on breaking legal developments; and co-sponsoring chapter meetings and webinars dedicated to legal issues. The committee is comprised of attorneys who specialize in employment/labor law. Typically, meetings are held every other month via conference call on the first Tuesday of the month at 8:30 a.m.
 

Marketing: Vice President: Dave Foess dfoess@relocationamerica.com
The Marketing committee creates, communicates, and delivers offerings that have value for our members and partners. Activities include branding the organization and securing sponsors and advertisers. The committee meets the third Friday of the month at Real Estate One, Northwestern Highway and Civic Center Drive, Southfield, Michigan, from 7:30 - 9:00 a.m.

Member Services: Vice President: Jessica Gard jgard@redico.com
Member Services promotes the rewards of HRAGD and SHRM membership with new member recruitment, membership renewal, professional certification, and volunteer recruitment and recognition. Activities include developing and implementing recruitment and retention strategies, conducting member orientations; overseeing the application and renewal processes; coordinating the professional mentoring program; raising funds for the SHRM Foundation; and promoting HRCI professional certification. The committee meets the first Wednesday of every month with the format alternating between conference calls and face-to-face meetings.

Programs: Vice President: Robert Salter rsalter1@hfhs.org
The Programs committee is committed to the education and professional development of members and delivers compelling programs and valuable networking opportunities for all HR professionals. Activities include planning and organizing the annual calendar of chapter meetings, workshops and seminars, which includes securing speakers, managing logistics, arranging for greeters and securing HRCI Recertification credits. The committee also coordinates HR Connects! events, Career Management Group (CMG) meetings, the Global Special Interest Group (SIG), and the annual Golf Outing. The committee meets the first Wednesday of each month at the Real Estate One Corporate Offices, located on Northwestern Highway at Civic Center Drive, Southfield, from 7:30 - 9:00 a.m.

Finance/Audit: Treasurer: Dave Cassar david_cassar@aon.com
The Finance and Audit Committee manages the financial aspects of the association. Committee activities include developing policies and procedures to improve chapter management; conducting internal audits to maintain compliance and controls; coordinating and monitoring the annual budget; and maintaining financial records through solid accounting processes. The Committee meets every other month and the following schedule is set for this fiscal year: Thursdays January 28, 2010, March 11, 2010, April 29, 2010 and May 27, 2010. Location: Aon Consulting, 3000 Town Center, 30th Floor, Southfield, Michigan, from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.

Public Relations: Vice President: Renea Butler rbutler@realestateone.com
The Public Relations Committee serves to recognize, promote, and communicate the activities and accomplishments of HRAGD and its members to the business community within Southeast Michigan. Activities include writing press releases for programs and events and submitting to various media lists; developing ad campaigns; and forging relationships with the media. Meetings are held monthly on the second Tuesday, at the corporate offices of Real Estate One, 25800 Northwestern Highway, Suite 100, Southfield, Michigan, from 8:00 - 9:00 a.m.
